The ancient image of Kokopella has made a huge resurgence in the last 20 years or so. For this recycled steel series, I desperately attempted to keep my work abstract, but the moment I pre-assembled these particular elements together, I saw "Kokopella" and did everything possible to un-see it but to no avail. I put all of the parts aside, but even as they sat out of order and in a pile, Kokopella was clawing his way out of the rubble. I don't make a habit of swearing, neither in my life nor work, but THIS piece continued to push its presence on me. To show my exasperation with creating a piece against my will, this title was required.
