The Tacoma Police Memorial Project:

The Construction Phase

THE STONE

The Stone is the base for the entire Memorial.   It is meant not only to ground the piece and serve as a base, but to ground us as well.   Stones of this dimension are quite hard to come by, and because of that, I had to visit nearly every quarry in the Puget Sound area more than once, some 4 times, and in my 1 1/2 months of searching, I put over 900 miles on my motorcycle.   Not that it was a hardship to ride around in the Cascade Mountains during the last weeks of summer mind you, but somebody had to do it.

In the end, Northwest Rock, a local stone yard near my home, found what I was looking for and brought it down out of the high Cascades just so I could take a look at it.
